How I Found Functional Medicine

I have been a licensed massage therapist since 2003, whenever I started to have any kind of health issues, I always looked for a holistic alternative first. I would research my symptoms and find ways to address what I was experiencing through vitamins or supplements.

In 2018 I stopped taking birth control after being on it for 19 years. I began to experience severe pain and menstrual issues and discovered it was the effects of PCOS. I found a few different Functional Medicine practitioners and read several books, researching ways to ease the symptoms. I made some changes in my diet and began taking some supplements and was able to manage the pain and my cycle without medication.

Late 2019, I became a certified yoga instructor and a certified personal trainer. Through teaching yoga classes and training group exercise classes, I discovered many women that were having the same issues that I had. I shared my experiences with them and decided in February of 2020 to enroll in the program to become a Doctor of Functional Medicine at Kingdom College of Natural Health in the hopes of helping people like you to ease or end symptoms of many common chronic issues.

I have always been an active person. Growing up, I would rather be outside playing a game with friends, running, biking, or competing in any number of sports. I played basketball, softball, volleyball, took dance classes, played water polo, and swam competitively for 11 years. Now as a middle-aged adult, if I'm not at the gym with my friends, then I am hiking or camping with my dogs and family. I am passionate about fitness, and I know that it looks differently for everyone. It is important for everyone to find a type of exercise that they can look forward to doing any day of the week. Keeping the body moving and maintaining your muscle and bone health is one of the keys to a better quality of life and longevity.
